Turkiye’s Erdogan and US President Trump discuss bilateral relations, regional security in the Strait of Hormuz and Yemen, diplomatic efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war, and Turkiye’s upcoming Organisation of Turkic States summit.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and US President Donald Trump discussed bilateral relations and regional and global developments during a telephone conversation, according to Turkiye’s Communications Directorate. The leaders reviewed security concerns in the Middle East and discussed efforts to strengthen cooperation between Ankara and Washington.

During the conversation, Erdogan said the Mecca Joint Defence Alliance was closely monitoring developments in the Strait of Hormuz and Yemen. He emphasised Türkiye’s efforts to address the situations through diplomatic channels, highlighting Ankara’s preference for dialogue and negotiated solutions to regional challenges.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a strategically important maritime passage for global energy supplies, making security and freedom of navigation in the region significant concerns for international markets. Developments in Yemen also continue to influence the broader security environment in the Middle East. Erdogan’s remarks underscored Türkiye’s interest in coordinating with partners to address these issues through diplomatic engagement.

Erdogan reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to improving relations with the United States and accelerating cooperation across various fields. The discussions come as the two countries prepare to mark the centenary of their diplomatic relations in 2027. Both governments have continued to engage on regional security, defence cooperation and wider international issues despite differences over certain policy matters.

The Turkish president also expressed Ankara’s readiness to support efforts to revive diplomatic negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. He said Turkiye was prepared to contribute to initiatives aimed at restarting the diplomatic process and ending the war through negotiations. Turkiye has previously offered to facilitate dialogue between the two sides, positioning itself as a potential intermediary in efforts to achieve a settlement.

The conversation also included diplomatic courtesies related to Turkiye’s national celebrations and upcoming regional engagements. Trump congratulated Erdogan and the Turkish people on Republic Day, which Turkiye observes on October 29. He also wished the country success in hosting the forthcoming summit of the Organisation of Turkic States.

The organisation provides a platform for cooperation among Turkic countries across political, economic, cultural and regional issues. Türkiye’s hosting of the summit is expected to provide an opportunity for participating leaders to discuss shared priorities and strengthen regional engagement.

The latest exchange reflects continued high-level communication between Ankara and Washington on bilateral cooperation and international security. While the call did not announce specific agreements or new policy measures, it highlighted shared diplomatic engagement on regional developments, the Ukraine conflict and the broader Türkiye-US relationship.
