Japan has established a new industrial partnership with the United States Navy through its formal agreement with Sumitomo Heavy Industries and IMIA which operates as a division of the American defense contractor ARMADA.

The alliance agreement was signed at SHI’s headquarters in Tokyo. The agreement established a foundation for the United States Navy Seventh Fleet which operates from Japanese and nearby maritime territories to receive better support services that include essential maintenance and operational assistance.

The agreement establishes SHI as Japan's main contractor while IMIA provides its special personnel and technical skills and operational capabilities to support vital maintenance work and boost readiness efforts.

The partnership combines SHIs ability to execute projects in Japan with IMIAs extensive knowledge of US naval maintenance methods to improve operational support in the Indo-Pacific region which experiences both high operational demands and unexpected maintenance requirements.

The parent company of IMIA, which operates under the name ARMADA, receives funding from private equity firms while it delivers essential mission-based services through its network of operating companies that extend throughout the United States.

The two parties involved in the partnership declared that their agreement constitutes more than a contractual bond because it establishes a common goal dedicated to maintaining naval readiness through fast and high-quality maintenance and support operations.

The agreement shows how U.S.-Japan defense-industrial cooperation has developed into a greater relationship between the two nations, which both countries now use to improve their maritime security operations and logistical support capabilities and fleet readiness throughout the Indo-Pacific region. The partnership works to keep the U.S. Navy prepared for its assigned missions by combining industrial resources that both countries possess.
