Lithuania is seeking to strengthen trade and investment ties with Bangladesh while expanding cooperation in digital transformation, technology and cybersecurity. Both sides also discussed business partnerships and technology-driven investment opportunities.

Lithuania is looking to strengthen its bilateral trade and investment relationship with Bangladesh, with a focus on technology-driven sectors such as digital transformation, cybersecurity and fintech. The issue was discussed during a meeting between Lithuanian Non-Resident Ambassador to Bangladesh Diana Mickeviciene and Bangladesh Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir in Dhaka.

Mickeviciene said Lithuania was interested in exchanging expertise and pursuing technical cooperation to support Bangladesh's digital transformation, technology development and cybersecurity capabilities. She also highlighted Lithuania's strengths in advanced laser technology, GovTech and fintech services.

The ambassador stressed the potential for stronger partnerships between public and private-sector organisations in both countries. Such cooperation, she said, could create opportunities in technology, innovation and investment while supporting the development of new business links.

Bangladesh's Commerce Minister said bilateral trade with Lithuania remains relatively limited but has significant potential for expansion. He highlighted the country's growing ICT sector, young skilled workforce and large freelance community as areas that could attract Lithuanian technology companies.

Bangladesh also sees an opportunity to position itself as a gateway to the wider South Asian market. The country's expanding digital economy and investment facilities could provide Lithuanian companies with a base for regional operations.

The talks also centered on building greater links between businesses. The two sides agreed to step up business-to-business contacts, consider joint projects and move faster to boost trade and investment.

Technology is likely to continue to be a significant possible cooperative area. Lithuania's expertise on laser technology, digital government and financial technology may meet the needs of Bangladesh's blossoming ICT and services cluster.

The meeting also discussed general economic prospects and investment cooperation. Bangladesh offered itself as a market for investment and Lithuania showed an interest in the sharing of technological knowledge and experience.

The engagement is the mutual effort to advance limited trade relations into a comprehensive economic partnership through technology, innovation and investment. The better cooperation between enterprises and institutions would be beneficial for the discovery of new business opportunities and bilateral economic ties.

Better networking between Bangladesh and Lithuania can offer access to specialized European technology and know-how to Bangladesh. The expansion of the digital economy and the presence of South Asian markets in Bangladesh may provide opportunities for growth to Lithuanian businesses.
