Turkmenistan and Thailand reaffirm plans to expand cooperation in trade, logistics, investment and tourism while strengthening political dialogue and multilateral engagement ahead of 35 years of diplomatic ties.
The two countries have reiterated their resolve to enhance their relationship through increased cooperation in areas such as trade, logistics, investments, tourism, and culture. This was revealed in the discussions that took place between Turkmen Ambassador to Malaysia Muhammetnyyaz Mashalov and Urasa Mongkolnavin, a high-ranking official from Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
As per the official statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the deliberations centered around strengthening political dialogue and finding out practical ways for further cooperation in various fields. Both the parties discussed the existing situation in their bilateral relationship and tried to find out means of engaging with each other institutionally.

It became clear from the discussion that both nations share a common goal of increasing cooperation between them in areas of trade and economic development by focusing on enhancing connectivity in terms of transport and logistics, investment, and business partnerships. It was stated that increased economic cooperation can lead to increased business relations between the two countries.
Apart from economic cooperation, there is emphasis on expanding cooperation in fields such as culture, education, and tourism. Both parties showed willingness to facilitate exchanges among people to increase understanding and encourage tourism and educational cooperation between Turkmenistan and Thailand.
The talks also emphasized that both countries would remain committed to the close coordination in the United Nations and other international organizations. It was decided that the two countries would support multilateral cooperation on matters of common interest at the regional and global level.
In recent times, Thailand has emerged as an important partner for Turkmenistan in Southeast Asia through Turkmenistan’s policy of diversifying their diplomatic and economic interests to areas outside of their traditional market. Diplomatic relations between the two countries have taken on new energy following the posting of the first resident Turkmenistan ambassador to Thailand from Kuala Lumpur in early 2026.
Economic diplomacy has become one of the key cornerstones of the cooperation. This year, representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan and Thai Chamber of Commerce held talks about ways to boost business connections and interaction. It is assumed that such measures will help foster more trade and attract investment in the countries.

The status of Thailand as the second largest economy of Southeast Asia and its importance as a logistical center for the region means that it can be considered an effective window for the development of economic relations between Turkmenistan and ASEAN countries. Thailand has shown willingness to increase cooperation with Turkmenistan in such spheres as trade, tourism, business development and investment, and to establish intergovernmental cooperation between the two countries.
Recent developments also take place in the context of both nations preparing to celebrate the 35th year since establishing their diplomatic relations in 2027. Through increased cooperation in trade, logistics, investments, and cultural interaction, Turkmenistan and Thailand seek to develop a more advanced and holistic relationship that will ensure sustainable economic development and greater interaction of Central and Southeast Asia.
