Laos and Japan are strengthening their bilateral partnership by expanding cooperation in clean energy, technology, agriculture, tourism, and modern industries. The cooperation agenda is discussed during talks between Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in Tokyo. The meeting takes place on the sidelines of the 31st Nikkei International Conference on the Future of Asia and highlights both nations’ commitment to expanding economic and strategic relations.

During the discussions, both leaders emphasize the importance of strengthening collaboration in clean and alternative energy, modern agriculture, technology, and industrial development. Laos seeks to attract greater Japanese investment and expertise to support economic growth, while Japan aims to promote resilient supply chains and sustainable development across Asia.

Energy cooperation remains a major focus area. Japan and Laos explore opportunities to enhance regional energy security, improve resource resilience, and support cleaner energy transitions. Laos, with its significant hydropower potential, continues to develop its role in regional energy cooperation, while Japan contributes advanced technologies and investment capabilities.

Prime Minister Sonexay also encourages greater Japanese investment in Laos, particularly in clean agriculture, manufacturing, renewable energy, infrastructure, logistics, and related services. He highlights that existing cooperation frameworks provide a foundation for stronger business partnerships between Lao and Japanese companies.

Japan reaffirms its commitment to supporting Laos’ development through human resource development, economic cooperation, and initiatives aimed at strengthening regional resilience. Both sides agree to continue working together under their comprehensive strategic partnership framework.

The growing Laos-Japan partnership reflects shared priorities in sustainability, innovation, and economic stability.
