  • Uzbekistan launches clean hydrogen project to support sustainable energy transition and reduce carbon emissions.
  • Initiative focuses on building hydrogen infrastructure, developing policies, and promoting investment opportunities in renewable energy sector.
  • Project supported by international partners aims to enhance skills, innovation, and long-term clean energy development.

Uzbekistan has initiated a clean hydrogen energy project which serves as part of its wider mission to create a low-carbon sustainable energy system.

The project which operates under the name "Clean Hydrogen for Uzbekistan" started its official launch in Tashkent to create essential regulatory and technical and institutional frameworks needed to build hydrogen-based energy systems.

The Global Green Growth Institute and Uzbekistan's Ministry of Energy work together to implement the project, which receives funding from South Korea's Green New Deal Trust Fund.

The programme's main goal is to establish a complete clean hydrogen ecosystem which will include pilot initiatives and infrastructure development and policy establishment.

The initiative will develop a national hydrogen roadmap while training public sector workers through workshops and training programs and searching for funding sources to establish a domestic hydrogen market.

Clean hydrogen which generates extremely low greenhouse gas emissions will serve as a crucial element for industrial decarbonization and enhancement of energy storage and transportation systems.

The project supports Uzbekistan's renewable energy strategy which aims to raise clean energy electricity production to 54% by 2030.

The country has already increased its funding for solar wind and other renewable energy projects while hydrogen development will help the country create a diversified energy portfolio which decreases its need for fossil fuels. Experts believe the project will create new industrial possibilities while protecting environmental sustainability.

The introduction of this program demonstrates Uzbekistan's increasing dedication to energy transition and technological advancement and international environmental progress.
