Japanese Delegation Eyes Semiconductor Hub in Dholera

Asia Manufacturing Review Team | Thursday, 11 September 2025

  • Japanese firms explore semiconductor opportunities in Dholera SIR.
  • Focus on precision facilities, infrastructure, and skill programs.
  • Dholera’s Tata-PSMC fab and projects to create 1.5L jobs by 2030.

A delegation of 20 Japanese semiconductor support companies recently visited Dholera Special Investment Region to examine the opportunities in India's growing chip industry. The group included senior officials from Shimizu Corporation, which is famous for precision engineering, and wanted to start cooperating with India after SEMICON India 2025, where India demonstrated supportive policies for building semiconductors.

The delegation's visit to the GAP Group of Dholera's ABCD Building is significant as GAP is a major developer in the Activation Zone. The conversation was centered on combining Japan's technology capabilities with India's workforce and infrastructure to create Dholera as a semiconductor hub.

The group discussed plans for Japan's small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to develop precision facilities supporting Tata Semiconductor along with all chip fabrications units, developing warehouses, gas distribution facilities, and clean rooms. They also discussed other plans to develop residential projects for expatriates and engineers, and training and development programs for semiconductor manufacturing.

Ambrish Parajiya, Managing Director of the GAP Group, mentioned, “The Japanese delegation's visit represents the confidence expressed in India’s vision and in Dholera's readiness. With the combination of Japan's precision and India's scale, we are going to make Dholera India’s Semiconductor City in partnerships."

Dholera is home to India’s largest semiconductor factory between Tata Group and Taiwan’s PSMC worth ₹92,000 crores and is expected to start production by 2027 and employ thousands of people. The Activation Zone has projects from Renew Energy, INOX Air, Polycab, and a 5 GW solar park and we can expect more than 1.5 lakh employment opportunities by 2030. It is only 110 km from Ahmedabad and we will have access to the Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway soon, as well as an International Airport which is expected to open in December 2025. These things will set Dholera as a prominent industrial hub.
