- Egypt’s electricity minister held talks in China to boost industrial and energy cooperation.
- Discussions focused on local production of high-voltage and smart electrical equipment.
- Meetings also explored solar power projects to expand Egypt’s renewable energy capacity.
Mahmoud Essmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, wrapped up his meetings and site visits during his current China visit with a set of talks focused on enhancing energy cooperation and promoting the local production of electrical equipment in Egypt.
The gatherings united Essmat with Chen Xiaoling, chairperson of Ancora Group; Chen Xiaoling, CEO of a firm focused on smart electrical devices and cable terminations; Cao, general manager of Guitang Group for solar energy support solutions; and Bai Yang, chairperson of Hongji Group for mining services and equipment.
Conversations centered on collaboration and partnership models, along with recent updates regarding the setup of production lines in Egypt aimed at localizing the production of high- and extra-high-voltage cables. Discussions included initiatives to set up a factory to localise gas-insulated technology, along with manufacturing various equipment for cable line installation and intelligent monitoring systems.
The meeting also evaluated the firm's proficiency in producing high- and extra-high-voltage equipment, such as medium- and extra-high-voltage cable terminations and accessories rated up to 750 kilovolts, in addition to hybrid gas-insulated transmission lines. These systems offer an intelligent alternative to traditional underground wiring and above-ground lines, resulting in reduced expenses, extended operational life, and enhanced safety standards.

The technology utilizes aluminium alloy conductors that are insulated in gas-filled conduits, decreasing technical losses by over 60% in comparison to conventional cables. The conversations additionally addressed the production of oil-filled extra-high-voltage transformers, gas-insulated switchgear, integrated smart transformers and switchgear cells, as well as modular, fully insulated smart substations designed to endure severe weather and environmental circumstances without any exposed live components.
During his meeting with Jutiang Group representatives, Essmat explored potential collaborations for the establishment of solar power plants, aligning with Egypt's wider strategy to expand renewable energy capacity and diversify its energy sources. Essmat stated that Egypt provides a vast and varied local market, in addition to an extensive regional market that includes neighboring nations. He indicated current electricity interconnections and trade agreements that strengthen Egypt’s role as a hub for regional energy collaboration and equipment exports.
