Synopsis: Bangladesh and China discuss strengthening transport corridor cooperation, connectivity, investment and energy collaboration while reaffirming their commitment to deeper economic partnership and regional development.
China and Bangladesh have reiterated their resolve to enhance cooperation between them by giving greater importance to the development of transport corridors, regional connectivity, and economic cooperation during talks held on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) meeting of foreign ministers in Manila. The talks are in keeping with the common goal of the two countries of developing their comprehensive cooperative partnership.
Dr. Khalilur Rahman, the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh, met with Wang Yi, the Foreign Minister of China, to review the developments in bilateral relations and to find new areas of cooperation. This meeting was aimed at making progress in the vision of building a Community of Shared Future between China and Bangladesh.

The development of transport corridors became one of the key topics of discussion. The ministers shared their perspectives on developing connectivity in the region by creating efficient transport corridors. Efficient transport corridors help to conduct business and ensure sustainability and economic integration. It was emphasized that both countries should develop transport corridors for sustainable growth and development.
In addition to transport, there were discussions on many aspects of economic issues, including investment, energy cooperation, and trade. Discussions were focused on increasing economic cooperation through the means of attracting more investments, developing infrastructure, and business partnerships. All this is supposed to result in growth of bilateral trade and further economic cooperation.
The regional issues also made the agenda of this meeting quite significant. Bangladesh re-emphasized the need for sustained cooperation by China in ensuring the safe, voluntary, and sustainable return of the Rohingya refugees from Myanmar. Both sides shared their views regarding the humanitarian situation and stressed the significance of dialogue between the two countries on issues of mutual interest.
