Kazakhstan and Kenya have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation across a range of strategic economic sectors, including trade, investment, agriculture, mining, banking, transport, logistics, and tourism. The commitment was reaffirmed during talks between Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Kenya, Barlybay Sadykov, and Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry, Lee Kinyanjui, as both countries sought to implement agreements reached during Kenyan President William Ruto's state visit to Kazakhstan in May 2026.
The discussions brought together representatives from Kazakhstan's quasi-public institutions, financial organisations, and relevant Kenyan government agencies to identify opportunities for expanding bilateral economic engagement. Both sides explored measures to increase trade volumes, encourage investment flows, establish joint ventures, and improve market access for Kazakh products in Kenya. The dialogue reflected a shared commitment to translating high-level political agreements into concrete commercial partnerships.

Agriculture emerged as one of the priority areas for cooperation. During the visit, the Kazakh delegation toured tea and coffee plantations in Kenya to explore opportunities for agricultural collaboration and discussed plans to establish a tea and coffee hub. The initiative is expected to promote agricultural trade, strengthen value chains, and facilitate greater exchange of expertise between the two countries' farming and agribusiness sectors.
The two countries also examined opportunities to strengthen transport and logistics connectivity. The delegation visited the Port of Mombasa and the Nairobi Inland Container Terminal, Kenya's largest dry port, to assess the potential use of Kenya's logistics infrastructure in supporting Kazakhstan's trade operations. Improved connectivity through Kenyan ports could enhance Kazakhstan's access to African markets while supporting more efficient regional trade routes.
In addition to logistics and agriculture, discussions covered cooperation in mining, banking, tourism, and investment. Kenyan officials expressed strong interest in Kazakhstan's economic development and welcomed deeper engagement with Astana across multiple industries. Both governments recognised that expanding business partnerships and institutional cooperation could unlock new opportunities for economic growth and private sector collaboration.

At the conclusion of the meetings, Kazakhstan and Kenya agreed to intensify cooperation by preparing feasibility studies for proposed joint projects, developing implementation roadmaps for previously signed agreements, and organising reciprocal expert-level visits. These measures are expected to accelerate the execution of bilateral initiatives and reinforce long-term economic relations. The expanded partnership reflects both countries' commitment to diversifying trade, strengthening investment cooperation, and building sustainable economic ties across key sectors.
