Bangladesh and China discuss expanding trade, investment and connectivity while Dhaka seeks Beijing's continued diplomatic support for the safe and sustainable repatriation of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar.
Bangladesh and China have discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, connectivity and development, while Dhaka sought Beijing’s continued diplomatic support for the early repatriation of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar. The discussions took place during a breakfast meeting hosted by Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir in honour of Liu Haixing, Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, in Dhaka.
The meeting was held at the State Guest House Padma, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening relations under the framework of the “China-Bangladesh Community with a Shared Future in the New Era”. They reviewed opportunities to expand political engagement, party-to-party exchanges, economic cooperation and institutional partnerships.

During the discussions, Kobir requested China's continued diplomatic assistance in facilitating the early, safe and sustainable repatriation of forcibly displaced Rohingyas to their homeland in Myanmar. Bangladesh has been hosting a large Rohingya refugee population since the mass displacement from Myanmar, placing considerable pressure on its economy, public services and local communities. Dhaka has consistently sought international support, particularly from regional partners with diplomatic engagement in Myanmar, to advance a durable solution.
The two sides also exchanged views on increasing bilateral trade and investment, improving regional connectivity and deepening development cooperation. Both countries expressed interest in building on their longstanding friendship and translating existing diplomatic engagement into stronger economic and institutional collaboration.
They also recalled the outcomes of Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's visit to China in June 2026, expressing satisfaction with the progress made during the engagement. The visit had provided an opportunity to strengthen political understanding and identify areas for expanding cooperation between the two countries.
Liu highlighted the role of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC) in China's foreign policy and reaffirmed his department's commitment to working closely with Bangladesh to strengthen bilateral relations. He expressed China's willingness to take the partnership forward through sustained political dialogue, institutional engagement and mutually beneficial cooperation.

The Chinese minister also recalled the contribution of his father, Liu Shuqing, a former Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh, in developing friendship and strengthening diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Liu arrived in Bangladesh on November 3 for a three-day visit aimed at deepening political engagement and expanding bilateral cooperation. During the visit, he also held discussions with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, covering Chinese investment, infrastructure, connectivity and the Rohingya crisis.
The latest meeting reflects ongoing efforts by Bangladesh and China to strengthen their comprehensive partnership, with trade, investment, regional connectivity and the Rohingya repatriation issue remaining important areas of bilateral engagement.
