Viet Nam and Tajikistan agree to strengthen high-level exchanges and expand cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture, textiles, education and tourism.
Viet Nam and Tajikistan have agreed to strengthen diplomatic engagement and expand cooperation across economic, trade, investment and cultural sectors, with a focus on increasing high-level delegation exchanges and creating stronger connections between institutions and businesses. The agreement was reached during a meeting between the two countries’ deputy foreign ministers in Ha Noi.
Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang met her Tajik counterpart, Idibek Kalandar, to review bilateral relations and identify opportunities for deeper collaboration. Both officials acknowledged the positive developments in ties between the countries, particularly regular meetings and interactions between senior leaders on the sidelines of international conferences.

During the discussions, Nguyen Minh Hang highlighted the growth in bilateral trade, which increased by nearly 60% in 2025 and continued its upward trend in 2026. She also noted that government ministries and agencies from both countries had been discussing new areas of cooperation. However, she observed that the overall results, particularly in economic and trade relations, remained modest. She called for greater efforts to utilise the strengths of both economies and translate existing opportunities into practical outcomes.
Idibek Kalandar reaffirmed Tajikistan’s commitment to strengthening its traditional friendship and cooperation with Viet Nam. He expressed appreciation for Viet Nam’s achievements through its Doi Moi (Renewal) process and national development, noting that Tajikistan is pursuing industrialisation and is interested in learning from Viet Nam’s experience. He also encouraged Vietnamese companies to explore investment opportunities in Tajikistan’s industrial parks.
The two deputy ministers agreed that their respective foreign ministries would continue coordinating high-level and other official visits and meetings. They also emphasised the ministries’ role in facilitating cooperation between government departments, local authorities, organisations and businesses. The objective is to make better use of the complementary strengths of both economies and strengthen economic, trade and investment partnerships.
Agriculture, textiles and garments, food processing and transport connectivity were identified as promising areas for collaboration. Both sides also agreed to facilitate direct business-to-business and institutional connections, while creating opportunities to exchange information on policies and market conditions.

They also expressed interest in expanding cooperation in culture, education and tourism, alongside people-to-people exchanges.
The meeting reflects the two countries’ efforts to build on their traditional relationship and develop more substantive economic and diplomatic engagement. By promoting official exchanges, improving institutional coordination and encouraging private-sector participation, Viet Nam and Tajikistan aim to broaden their partnership across multiple sectors.
