Bloomberg reports that Apple is set to introduce a completely new range of Apple smart home products that will be produced in Vietnam. This action is part of Apple’s strategy to grow in the smart home sector while decreasing its dependence on supply chains located in China.
The American tech giant is set to collaborate with Chinese electronics producer BYD to create a variety of new products, such as indoor security cameras, central control screens for home appliances, and a robotic desktop assistant featuring a movable arm, anticipated to debut in 2027.
Sources indicate that each of the three products will be assembled, tested, and packaged in Vietnam, representing Apple's inaugural choice of the country as the main manufacturing site for a completely new product line.
At present, Apple manufactures a segment of its iPads, AirPods, Apple Watches, Macs, and HomePods in Vietnam. This expansion assits Apple diversify its supply chain amid rising geopolitical tensions and tariff risks, even as products imported from Vietnam continue to face a 20% tariff due to new U.S. trade rules.
“This expansion move shows Apple’s growing dependence on Vietnam as a key manufacturing hub,” Bloomberg commented.
The intelligent home management device - a 7-inch square screen that can make FaceTime calls, manage music and appliances, and enable intercom communication - is anticipated to cost approximately $350.

Initially scheduled for launch in March 2025 with a new AI-enhanced version of Siri, the product has been postponed to spring 2026 because of software challenges.
Apple is creating two variations: a desktop version (code J490) that integrates the screen with a speaker, and a wall-mounted version (code J491). Each will include FaceTime cameras and adaptive software systems that modify themselves according to the user. This software identifies the user as they near the screen, much like the adaptive features found in Amazon’s newest Echo models.
In addition to improved mobility and a more intuitive, interactive version of Siri, Apple's desktop robot will include a screen roughly 9 inches in size - comparable to that of an iPad. Both gadgets will utilize affordable LCD screens provided by Tianma Microelectronics, rather than Apple's latest advanced display technology.
