UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa have discussed bilateral relations and ways to expand cooperation, particularly in the economic and development sectors, during a phone call. The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and international developments, with a focus on the latest situation in the Middle East and its implications for regional security and stability.

The leaders reviewed opportunities to strengthen cooperation between the UAE and Syria in areas linked to economic development and investment. Syria’s state news agency said the two sides also explored ways to expand economic and investment cooperation and develop partnerships that serve their shared interests.

The phone call comes after a meeting between Sheikh Mohamed and Al-Sharaa in Abu Dhabi in September, when the Syrian president visited the UAE to participate in the 24th Arab Media Summit in Dubai. During that meeting, the two sides discussed strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in economic and development fields. They also highlighted the importance of a recent UAE economic delegation’s visit to Syria in supporting economic recovery and establishing frameworks for strategic projects.

Economic engagement between the two countries has continued to develop through government and private sector initiatives. UAE-based Eagle Hills is working on residential and tourism projects in Damascus and Latakia under a framework agreement with the Syrian government. The UAE has also been involved in efforts to strengthen financial-sector cooperation with Syria, including discussions on payment systems, monetary policy, cash management and financial technology.

The two presidents also discussed wider regional and international developments, particularly the latest developments in the Middle East. They emphasised the importance of strengthening regional security and stability in a way that supports the interests and development of the region’s populations.

The UAE and Syria have continued consultations on matters of common interest, with both governments highlighting the role of closer economic partnerships in supporting their respective development priorities. The latest phone call further reinforces the two countries’ efforts to expand bilateral cooperation while maintaining coordination on regional developments and security concerns.
