Tanzania, Vietnam Strengthen Ties in Trade and Investment

Vice President Dr. Philip Mpango has reaffirmed Tanzania’s dedication to enhancing its enduring partnership with Vietnam, specifically aiming to improve collaboration in investment, agriculture, trade, defense, and regional and global issues.

Dr. Mpango invited Vietnam to investigate various investment opportunities in Tanzania, particularly in the agriculture and textile manufacturing industries.

The VP expressed these comments during a bilateral discussion with Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister, Ho Duc Phoc, which took place alongside the ongoing Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) in Seville, Spain.

He emphasized the government's recognition of the longstanding sixty-year diplomatic ties between the two nations, characterizing it as a basis for further strategic collaboration.

“Tanzania remains committed to enhancing the investment climate and is actively addressing challenges facing investors through regular feedback mechanisms,” said Dr Mpango.

He expressed Tanzania’s readiness to enhance collaboration with Vietnam’s telecommunications leader Viettel, which runs Halotel in Tanzania, especially in expanding mobile network services and improving 5G technology availability in the nation.

Dr. Mpango has thanked the Vietnamese government for accepting Tanzanian goods, such as cashew nuts and forestry items, in its marketplace.

The VP praised Vietnam for creating the inaugural Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) in 2014 and confirmed that Tanzania would plan the second JPC post the 2025 General Election. He emphasized Tanzania’s dedication to enhancing cooperation with Vietnam, especially regarding shared concerns in global forums.

“Vietnam was among the first countries to open an embassy shortly after we attained independence and has cooperated with Tanzania through the government, Chama Cha Mapinduzi and our people,” said Dr Mpango.

Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc emphasized the increasing economic collaboration between Tanzania and Vietnam, pointing out that Tanzania persists in utilizing the Vietnamese market for exporting cashew nuts and forestry goods, with the yearly trade volume hitting 150 million US dollars.

He emphasized the mutual reliance of the two economies, noting that Vietnam exports a variety of goods to Tanzania, such as clothing and food items.

Mr. Phoc additionally emphasized that there is considerable potential for enhanced collaboration via business and investment initiatives in Vietnam, encouraging both parties to investigate unexplored opportunities for shared advantage.

Simultaneously, Dr Mpango held a meeting with Denmark's Minister for Development and Cooperation, Elsebeth Søndergaard Krone, where they talked about improving development cooperation between Tanzania and Denmark.

Dr Mpango expressed gratitude to Denmark for its support in Tanzania’s progress in multiple areas, which have improved the lives of Tanzanians, including infrastructure, finance, healthcare, and water supply.

The conversation focused on strategic collaboration in trade, investment, and other advantageous fields, such as energy, environment, smart agriculture, and infrastructure, to strengthen the private sector.
