  • South Korea and Vietnam agreed to boost cooperation in nuclear energy and advanced technology sectors.
  • Partnership includes collaboration in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and infrastructure to strengthen innovation and industrial growth.
  • Both nations aim to enhance energy security, supply chain resilience, and expand bilateral economic and investment ties.

The South Korean and Vietnamese governments have established a new nuclear energy and high-tech sector partnership which will bring their two countries into deeper strategic cooperation. The agreement was reached during a summit in Hanoi between South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Vietnam's top leader To Lam, who both declared that their nations should strengthen their partnerships because of worldwide supply chain challenges and increasing energy needs.

The two nations signed multiple memorandums of understanding which detailed their cooperation plan for energy and technology and infrastructure development.

The partnership main objective centers on developing nuclear energy. Vietnam is currently seeking international partners to build a nuclear power plant with a projected capacity of up to 3.2 gigawatts by 2035, following the withdrawal of earlier partners.

South Korea has emerged as a key potential collaborator, with both sides agreeing to explore joint development, financing, and technological support for such projects. The Vietnamese government considers this cooperation essential because industrial development creates problems for electricity supply which needs consistent long-term energy resources.

The two countries are progressing their partnership through high-tech industrial development which includes semiconductor manufacturing and artificial intelligence technology and advanced manufacturing systems.

Vietnam seeks to increase investment from South Korean companies across these sectors because it wants to develop higher value operations while decreasing its dependence on basic manufacturing activities. South Korea will continue its status as one of Vietnam's top investors while becoming a key driver of technological development through its business expansion activities.

Both countries established supply chain resilience and economic ties as essential needs to handle international trade disruptions. The companies seek to establish tighter connections between Vietnamese enterprises and South Korean production and distribution systems.

The two countries established an enhanced relationship which they used to establish their common goals of improving energy security, advancing technological development, and increasing bilateral trade, while both nations planned to expand their economic relationship during upcoming years.
