Turkiye and Kazakhstan pledge to deepen their strategic partnership, prioritising trade, investment, energy, transport and defence cooperation, while strengthening coordination through the Organisation of Turkic States.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev have pledged to strengthen bilateral relations, with a focus on trade, investment, energy, transport and defence industry cooperation. The leaders held talks in Ankara, to discuss expanding their enhanced strategic partnership and address regional and global developments.
Tokayev received an official welcome at Turkiye’s Presidential Complex, where the two presidents held a bilateral meeting before chairing discussions between their respective delegations. According to Turkiye’s Communications Directorate, Erdogan emphasised the importance of advancing cooperation across key economic and strategic sectors to deepen ties between the two countries.

Trade and investment were central to the discussions, as both countries seek to expand economic engagement and identify further opportunities for cooperation. Energy and transport connectivity were also highlighted as priority areas, reflecting the importance of infrastructure and regional links in supporting commerce between Turkiye and Central Asia. The leaders also discussed strengthening collaboration in the defence industry, an area that has gained importance in their broader strategic relationship.
Erdogan reaffirmed Turkiye’s commitment to closer coordination with Kazakhstan through the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS). He said Ankara would work to strengthen the organisation during Turkiye’s chairmanship and maintain close solidarity with Astana on initiatives aimed at enhancing cooperation among Turkic countries.
The OTS provides a multilateral platform for its members to promote collaboration across political, economic, cultural and other fields. Turkiye and Kazakhstan are founding members of the organisation and have continued to pursue cooperation through bilateral engagements and regional initiatives. Their partnership also covers areas such as energy security, regional connectivity, technology and investment.
As part of the diplomatic engagement, Erdogan invited Tokayev to attend the COP31 Leaders’ Summit, scheduled to take place in Antalya, Turkiye, on November 11 and 12, 2026. The invitation adds a climate diplomacy component to the discussions, alongside the broader economic and strategic agenda.

The latest meeting follows previous high-level engagements between the two countries, including discussions held by their foreign ministers in February 2026. At that meeting, officials identified trade diversification, investment, energy cooperation, transport corridors, science and technology, cyber security and defence as areas with potential for further collaboration.
The leaders’ latest commitments signal continued efforts to strengthen Turkiye-Kazakhstan relations through expanded economic ties, strategic coordination and cooperation within regional institutions.
