  • TotalEnergies finalizes suppliers for 1GW Mirny wind project in Kazakhstan.
  • Construction starts in 2026, launch planned in 2028 to boost clean energy.
  • Envision and SANY chosen for turbines and local manufacturing setup.

The Kazakh capital moved closer to a sustainable future as TotalEnergies, in collaboration with Qazaq Green Power and KMG Green, has finalized supplier selection for the one-gigawatt Mirny wind farm, a key initiative set to strengthen the nation’s developing renewable energy industry.

Aktas Energy, the joint venture responsible for the Mirny wind project, entered into agreements with prominent renewable equipment producers Envision Energy and SANY Renewable Energy Co. for the provision of 150 wind turbines, during a ceremony with project partners at Kazakhstan Energy Week on Oct. 3 in Astana, as reported by the company’s press service on Oct. 3.

The Mirny wind project construction will commence in 2026, representing a major advancement in enhancing Kazakhstan renewable energy security and progressing towards carbon neutrality by 2060. The initiative will be developed in the Zhambyl Region of southern Kazakhstan, with an intended launch in 2028, establishing it as a key element of the country’s shift to clean energy.

“We are delighted to announce the selection of two leading wind turbine suppliers for our one GW Mirny Wind Project in Kazakhstan, a key milestone that brings us closer to the next phases of development, including the final investment decision by the project partners. Through the Mirny Project, TotalEnergies will play a pivotal role in supporting Kazakhstan’s ambition to reach 15% renewable energy in its national energy mix by 2030,” said Thierry Plaisant, Managing Director of TotalEnergies Renewables Kazakhstan.

Envision Energy and SANY Renewable Energy were chosen for their worldwide expertise in wind turbine technology, economically viable solutions, and robust local content pledges, which encompass plans to establish production operations in Kazakhstan.

SANY Renewable Energy is set to provide 7.7 MW turbines for the Mirny project, with a portion manufactured at Kazakhstan's inaugural wind power equipment factory, collaboration with Samruk Kazyna Invest, which had its technical launch on September 2, 2025.

“Currently boasting the strongest competitive edge, this model has been successfully delivered and installed across three projects in Kazakhstan, with a total capacity of 83.6 MW. These 26 WTGs are set to be part of the first batch rolling off the production line at Kazakhstan’s very first wind power equipment factory,” said Robin Liu, managing director of Asia Pacific & Africa at Sany Renewable Energy.
