Jordan King Meets Japan's Emperor, Business Leaders for Ties

King Abdullah II of Jordan visited Emperor Naruhito at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, where they reinforced the enduring relationship between their nations that has lasted 70 years. The king met with the Japanese defense minister, Shinjiro Koizumi, to talk about recent regional developments and ways to strengthen military collaboration.

The king of Jordan met with representatives from the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as Japanese firms, to explore avenues for boosting economic and investment collaboration. He highlighted the importance of increased cooperation in technical transformation, agriculture, logistics, food processing, textiles, manufacturing, mining, chemical sectors, and energy.

He also emphasized Jordan's strategic position, trade partnerships, and industrial development as important reasons for drawing Japanese companies. The gathering included CEOs and delegates from important companies in sectors such as trade, energy, natural resources, artificial intelligence, textiles, and food processing.

King Abdullah also met with Akihiko Tanaka, the president of the Japan International Cooperation Agency, to talk about enhancing the 40-year collaboration between Jordan and JICA.

The gathering centered on existing partnerships in water desalination, such as the Aqaba-Amman Water Desalination and Conveyance Project, along with energy and tourism, and examined possible avenues for expansion.

He stressed the need to promote collaboration in contract manufacturing along with the metals, energy, agriculture, logistics sectors, and related industries to enhance competitiveness for products from both nations. He emphasized JETRO’s important economic reports and its assistance for Jordanian companies entering the Japanese market, while also pointing out opportunities for Japanese businesses in Jordan.
