The two leaders are expected to focus on ensuring reliable liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports from Malaysia to Japan and strengthening supply chains for critical minerals. The talks take place amid concerns over disruptions linked to the possible closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a major maritime route for global energy transportation.
Energy security remains a key priority for Japan, which depends heavily on imported resources due to limited domestic reserves. Malaysia serves as an important energy partner, supplying a significant share of Japan’s LNG requirements. A large portion of crude oil shipments to Japan also passes through the Strait of Malacca, a vital trade corridor connecting the Indian Ocean and the Pacific region.
