The Uzbekistan Metallurgy Association and the Iranian Steel Producers Association have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance collaboration in the iron and steel sector.
The Iranian Steel Producers Association welcomed the president of the Uzbekistan Metallurgy Association and a delegation that featured Iran’s commercial attaché in Uzbekistan, along with representatives from the Trade Promotion Organization, as reported by The Caspian Post citing Iranian media.
In the meeting that resulted in the MoU signing, Bahram Sobhani, President of the Iranian Steel Producers Association, showcased the potential of Iran’s steel sector and stressed the preparedness of Iranian iron and steel manufacturers, along with associated engineering firms, to address the industrial and mining requirements of neighboring countries, especially Uzbekistan.
Gulbahor Taji Mirzayeva, head of the Uzbekistan Metallurgy Association, presented the opportunities within Uzbekistan’s metal sectors, featuring 17 member firms of the association. She characterized Uzbekistan’s steel industry as rapidly advancing and urged the sharing of knowledge and skills from Iranian steel producers to Uzbekistan.

The agreement encompasses various economic, industrial, and educational aspects, such as long-term collaboration on raw material and product provision, sharing experiences, engaging in joint industrial ventures, planning and partnering on specialized training within the iron and steel value chain via the Iranian Steel Academy, enhancing industrial cooperation, and reinforcing standings in both regional and global steel markets.
The MoU includes clauses for organizing collaborative events such as conferences, exhibitions, and industrial forums to facilitate knowledge and expertise exchange. It also outlines plans for joint research on decarbonization and energy efficiency in ferrous metallurgy, cooperation in product exports and imports with a focus on promoting common logistics routes, and partnership in providing and analyzing statistical data, conducting market research, preparing forecasts, and carrying out supply chain studies.
