Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar meets the Sri Lankan High Commissioner and Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to strengthen electoral cooperation, institutional exchanges and democratic capacity building.
India has reaffirmed its dedication towards international cooperation in electoral processes, as the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Gyanesh Kumar, met individually with the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to India and the Ambassador of Uzbekistan in New Delhi. The discussions centered on enhancing cooperation among electoral institutions, institutional interaction, and exchange of best practices in democracy.
The conferences have been indicative of the ongoing work done by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to promote collaboration between election authorities across the globe and to encourage knowledge sharing on elections administration. The two conferences emphasized the role of collaboration in improving electoral processes.

During his discussion with the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, the Chief Election Commissioner went on to recapitulate the historical relationship of collaboration that the election authorities of both countries have maintained. The two delegates discussed the possibilities of enhanced engagement at an institutional level through various training programmes and capacity-building activities.
The consultations reiterated the strong democratic ties that exist between the two neighboring nations, where both sides appreciated the importance of sharing experiences in the holding of free and fair elections. Improved collaboration is anticipated to facilitate the ongoing improvement in election administration.
While meeting separately with the Ambassador of Uzbekistan, the Chief Election Commissioner discussed possible ways of increasing cooperation between the two countries in the sphere of elections. The main point of discussion was the sharing of India's rich experience of conducting elections and embracing digitalization in the process of elections.
Both parties indicated their desire to foster cooperation through training, technical assistance, and the sharing of good practices in fields like voter registration, election management, electoral technologies, and capacity building. The discussion was also an indication of the continuing process of modernizing the electoral process in Uzbekistan through international cooperation and learning.
In this regard, the Election Commission of India pointed out that it is a world leader in election administration and has been actively interacting with other election management bodies across continents of Asia, Africa, and others through various knowledge exchanges and international cooperation initiatives.

In addition, the meetings revealed that the Indian approach to diplomacy also includes employing cooperation within institutions to further strengthen bilateral ties between India and its partners. The idea of election cooperation goes hand-in-hand with cooperation in governance and democratic capacity building.
Concluding remarks were marked by an agreement to keep in touch on a regular basis between the electoral bodies as well as increased cooperation by means of future interactions, training programs and technical cooperation. India, through its partnership with Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan, will continue to promote the creation of robust and transparent electoral mechanisms.
