UAE companies sign a US$6.1 billion biofuel investment agreement in Uzbekistan’s Khorezm region, accelerating sustainable aviation fuel production, clean energy development and industrial cooperation.

UAE firms have inked a US$6.1 billion investment deal for a large-scale biofuels and sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) facility in the Khorezm province of Uzbekistan. This would be one of the largest green energy investments made in Central Asia. The project is likely to bolster Uzbekistan’s renewables industry, as well as establishing the country as a key center for the production of sustainable fuels.

This agreement is headed by Allied Biofuels, working together with international engineering and technology companies. Under the new phase of the project, Sinopec Engineering Group will carry out the front-end engineering design (FEED), detailed engineering, system integration, and costing, with a provision for moving on to EPC. This agreement takes the project from the planning to the implementation phase.

It is important to note that the biofuel hub is expected to be the first of its kind in Central Asia where Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), e-SAF, and green diesel are produced. The plant will provide a combination of all processes including biomass treatment, production of sustainable fuels, renewable energy production and power-to-liquid production technology within one industrial ecosystem.

In addition to the above, the project will utilize renewable energy facilities such as wind and solar energy plants, battery energy storage systems, and hydrogen energy production systems. All of these renewable energy sources will help generate electricity that will help create sustainable fuels without emitting any greenhouse gases.

Uzbekistan sees the project as a key achievement in its larger plan of bringing in high-quality foreign direct investment and developing their renewable energy sector. This fits in with the government’s plans of diversifying the country’s economy and ensuring energy security and positioning the country as a viable destination for investments in manufacturing and clean technologies.

Economic benefits are also expected due to the development of infrastructure, technology transfer, and employment creation in the Khorezm province. This project will help in developing industry by combining efforts of international investors, engineers, and fuels. It will help in making Uzbekistan an important link in the global chain of energy supply.

The need to produce sustainable aviation fuel on a large scale is now an important issue for many states in their quest to lower carbon emissions associated with aviation. The project at Khorezm will benefit from both local and international demand for this product.

The US$6.1 billion project marks a vital milestone in economic cooperation between the UAE and Uzbekistan, while reaffirming the commitment of Uzbekistan to becoming a regional power in sustainable energy. Through the use of cutting-edge technology, sustainable energy infrastructure and innovative fuel sources, this project is set to play a key role in contributing towards economic growth and sustainability.
