- Vietnam updates national priority energy project list with 32 major developments.
- The revised plan includes thermal, hydro, offshore wind, LNG, and transmission upgrades.
- New Steering Committee to accelerate implementation amid rising power demand.
Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son has approved a comprehensive revision to the nation’s list of key and priority energy projects, representing one of the most thorough updates to the sector’s development plan in recent years.
The updated list released under Decision 2634/QD-TTg details significant initiatives supervised by the State Steering Committee for nationally important programs and essential energy projects. The choice supersedes a previous portfolio released in April 2024.
The revised list includes 32 energy projects, comprising 21 thermal power facilities, nine hydropower initiatives, and two offshore wind projects. It additionally includes seven LNG storage sites, seven gas-to-electricity systems, and numerous transmission lines and substations.
The list additionally features the extension of the Dung Quat Oil Refinery and three local renewable energy industrial zones in Ho Chi Minh City, the central province of Khanh Hoa, and the south-central-southern area, which includes a high-voltage subsea cable production facility to aid offshore wind initiatives.

The update additionally includes hydropower expansions at Tri An, Tuyen Quang, Ban Chat, Lai Chau, and Son La. Offshore wind initiatives encompass developments in the south-central offshore region and a wind complex focused on exporting energy to Singapore and Malaysia.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade has been tasked with assessing and updating the list as necessary, considering changes in electricity demand, grid preparedness, and investment circumstances. The revised list will direct the efforts of the State Steering Committee formed in November, led by Deputy PM Bui Thanh Son, tasked with inter-ministerial collaboration and hastening the preparation and implementation of key energy projects.
