- UAE accelerates eVTOL certification, positioning itself as a global air mobility leader.
 - UAE Aviation Safety Conference 2025 focuses on AI’s role in intelligent aviation systems.
 - GCAA prioritizes safety and innovation through structured, transparent eVTOL certification processes.

The UAE is expediting efforts to introduce electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for commercial operations, as the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) is prioritizing certification for various passenger and cargo variants.
The action situates the nation as a leader in global advanced air mobility, establishing the foundation for upcoming air taxi and urban transport systems in alignment with the UAE’s innovation-focused aviation strategy.
The GCAA stated that the certification program involves a thorough, evidence-oriented procedure that includes technical assessments, flight tests, and operational evaluations. Every project is progressing on its own schedule, depending on readiness and adherence to safety and performance criteria.
Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, General Director of the GCAA, stated that the UAE continues to be one of the initial countries to create a regulatory structure for next-generation air transportation. “Our approach prioritises safety and reliability at every stage, ensuring innovation in aviation proceeds with the same discipline that defines our oversight system,” he said.
Specialized teams are currently engaged in each eVTOL program, uniting technical, operational, and regulatory experts from UAE organizations and global certification agencies. The objective is to incorporate new air mobility technologies securely and effectively into the national aviation framework.

Aqeel Al Zarouni, Assistant Director-General of Aviation Safety Affairs, stated that the eVTOL certification process aims to foster innovation while ensuring complete regulatory transparency. “We’re building a structured and efficient process that supports technological advancement without compromising safety,” he noted.
The GCAA emphasized that every eVTOL aircraft being assessed is undergoing thorough testing in collaboration with manufacturers to guarantee complete adherence to international aviation standards.
The declaration is made as the GCAA holds the UAE Aviation Safety Conference 2025, themed “AI and the Future of Aviation Safety: Intelligent Skies, Safer Flights.” The gathering brings together policymakers and industry executives to explore how artificial intelligence and new technologies influence the development of safer, more intelligent air transportation systems.
