  • UAE and ADB launch partnership supporting agricultural innovation across eight Asian nations.
  • Initiative promotes AI-driven farming technologies, digital advisory services, and climate-resilient agricultural practices.
  • Partnership aims improving food security, farmer livelihoods, and sustainable regional agricultural development.

The United Arab Emirates has partnered with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to strengthen food security and promote agricultural innovation across Asia and the Pacific. The collaboration was announced during the 59th Annual Meeting of the ADB in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, where the International Affairs Office at the UAE Presidential Court signed a USD 1.5 million technical cooperation agreement with the regional development institution. The initiative helps farmers through its support of advanced agricultural technology adoption, which enhances their ability to handle climate-related and market-related challenges.

The partnership will support agricultural innovation programmes in eight countries Bangladesh, Indonesia, Nepal, the Philippines, Vietnam, Pakistan, Thailand, and the Maldives. The programme will establish national agricultural systems through its partnership work with local governments and development agencies by applying evidence-based farming solutions. The system provides three solutions which include AI-powered weather forecasting and digital advisory platforms and livestock productivity technologies that help improve efficiency and build stronger food production systems.

The main element of the program is the Agricultural Innovation Mechanism for Scale which serves as a worldwide platform that receives backing from both the United Arab Emirates and the Gates Foundation. The program partners with governmental bodies and multilateral organizations and development organizations to advance agricultural innovations which will benefit millions of farming communities. The officials state that the partnership demonstrates how the United Arab Emirates implements its technology-based approach together with international partnerships to solve worldwide food security issues.

UAE officials stated that international cooperation remains essential for improving global agricultural resilience. The UAE uses Abu Dhabi's AI Ecosystem for Global Agricultural Development to unify its resources and knowledge and funding and technological advancements which will help worldwide sustainable farming methods. The UAE provided USD 5 million in grants earlier this year to multiple academic and development institutions which focus on agricultural innovation projects throughout African nations.

The ADB representatives stated that rising fertiliser prices together with supply chain disruptions and climate pressures keep threatening food systems which exist throughout Asia and the Pacific region. The researchers determined that digital technologies together with innovative financing methods and precision farming techniques would enable farmers to achieve better agricultural outcomes at lower expenses. The partnership will create two benefits which include building sustainable food systems and fostering increased regional collaboration for agricultural development.

The agreement strengthens the UAE's development efforts which extend beyond sustainable development and climate resilience projects and agricultural transformation initiatives. The analysts predict that this partnership will drive faster adoption of smart farming technologies while supporting vulnerable communities to achieve permanent food security and economic stability.
