The Kazakh President also pointed to opportunities to increase people-to-people exchanges through stronger air connectivity. He said the launch of additional direct commercial flights between Kazakhstan and Oman could encourage more citizens of both countries to travel between the two destinations.
Sultan Haitham said Oman and Kazakhstan had made significant progress in their relations over more than three decades. He said the state visit was intended to consolidate the progress achieved and elevate bilateral ties to a broader level. Several agreements and memoranda of understanding were expected to be signed during the visit, covering economic, political, cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
Economic and investment cooperation remained a key focus of the engagement. The two countries have been seeking to increase trade, attract investments and develop cooperation in transport and logistics. Oman’s geographic position and maritime infrastructure could provide Kazakhstan with additional access to Gulf and international markets, while Kazakhstan offers Oman a gateway toward Central Asian markets.
The visit also included discussions related to the Dunga oil field. A signing ceremony for an agreement concerning the field took place during the Sultan’s visit, which Tokayev described as evidence of the two countries’ mutual interest in advancing economic cooperation.
