  • Saudi Arabia aims to expand trade ties with Cambodia, viewing it as strategic ASEAN gateway.
  • Discussions focused on investment opportunities, halal production, special economic zones, and bilateral trade growth.
  • Both sides explored tourism cooperation, including potential direct flights to boost people-to-people exchanges.

Saudi Arabia and Cambodia announced their decision to develop tighter relationships through enhanced partnerships in trade and investment and tourism which will strengthen their connection between the Middle Eastern kingdom and Southeast Asian country.

On February 8, 2026, Cambodian Commerce Minister Cham Nimul received a Saudi Chamber of Commerce delegation which Waleed Nasser Alsheri the Saudi Cambodia Business Council chairman led to explore economic partnership opportunities between their two countries.

The two parties expressed their dedication to expanding their trade relationship beyond existing boundaries because Saudi Arabia selected Cambodia as an essential link for its regional trade activities throughout ASEAN while Riyadh works to achieve its Saudi Vision 2030 diversification objectives.

The Saudi delegation received a briefing from Minister Nimul about recent economic and trade policy improvements which Cambodia implemented together with its programs that create a more attractive business climate for foreign investors.

She explained that Saudi Arabia should invest in Cambodia because its political and economic stability creates investment opportunities which especially benefit special economic zones and halal production industries.

The Cambodian government aims to achieve higher foreign direct investment and export growth together with enhanced commercial relations which will generate mutual advantages for its partner nations.

The Saudi delegation studied future trade partnerships with Cambodia because they considered the country to be a strategic base for connecting Gulf businesses with Southeast Asian markets.

The two parties expressed their commitment to execute an action plan which they established through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that Cambodia's Ministry of Commerce and Saudi Arabia's General Authority for Foreign Trade (GAFT) signed to promote trade between their countries.

The two countries held talks about enhancing travel connections through direct flight services which would increase tourism and investment between them while strengthening their long-term people-to-people relationships.

This renewed focus on economic collaboration reflects broader trends of Middle Eastern nations expanding their trade and tourism footprints in Southeast Asia while ASEAN countries like Cambodia seek to diversify their export markets and attract new investors in rapidly growing sectors.
