Vietnam and Singapore launch their first Strategic Dialogue on August 24-25 to deepen their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, strengthen political coordination and expand cooperation in AI, digitalisation, innovation, investment and regional connectivity.
Vietnam and Singapore are set to open a new channel for high-level strategic engagement with the launch of the first Vietnam-Singapore Strategic Dialogue on August 24-25. The mechanism is expected to add greater political and strategic depth to the two countries’ Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Politburo member and Standing Member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee’s Secretariat Tran Cam Tu will lead Vietnam’s delegation and co-chair the inaugural dialogue during his official visit to Singapore. The visit marks the first official trip to Singapore by a Standing Member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee’s Secretariat.

The Strategic Dialogue is established following an agreement reached by the leaders of Vietnam and Singapore during Vietnamese General Secretary and President To Lam’s state visit to Singapore in May. The new mechanism is intended to provide a regular platform for senior-level discussions on long-term bilateral relation, regional and international issues.
The dialogue is expected to strengthen political trust and support the implementation of the two countries’ Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Discussions are likely to explore areas extending beyond traditional cooperation in trade, investment, education and defence-security.
Technology and innovation are emerging as important areas for deeper collaboration. Singapore’s experience in artificial intelligence, the digital economy, innovation, urban governance, logistics, finance and human-resource development offers opportunities for Vietnam to expand cooperation in sectors aligned with its development priorities.
The new mechanism could also encourage a shift from conventional investment-led cooperation towards joint research, technology development, innovation and participation in regional and global value chains. Such collaboration can create opportunities for businesses, research institutions and government agencies in both countries.

Economic relations remain a major pillar of the partnership. Singapore is one of Vietnam’s largest foreign investors, with cumulative registered investment approaching $100 billion. Bilateral trade also reaches nearly $12 billion in 2025, while Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Parks continue to serve as a flagship model of economic cooperation.
The strategic dialogue is therefore positioned as more than a diplomatic exchange. It is expected to create a new architecture for bilateral engagement, connecting political-level discussions with practical cooperation in technology, innovation, economic development, governance and regional connectivity.
As Vietnam and Singapore seek to translate their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership into concrete initiatives, the inaugural dialogue could provide a foundation for new-generation cooperation and reinforce their roles as important partners within ASEAN.
