  • China to send trade delegation to Manila in October for investments in key sectors.
  • China is the 4th-largest source of Philippine investments in Jan–June 2025.
  • The Philippines earned ₱144M in tourism sales at the Beijing expo, winning the Island Charm Award.

China intends to send a trade delegation to Manila in October to explore additional investment opportunities in several sectors, including energy, technology, manufacturing, agriculture, and tourism, according to the Philippine Embassy in Beijing on Thursday.

“The forum generated more interest in investment opportunities in the Philippines, and we are optimistic about a successful outcome of the investment mission in October,” according to Glenn G. Peñaranda, the embassy’s commercial counsellor.

At the forum, presentations were given on prospects in electronics and smart manufacturing, green energy, digital services and economy, infrastructure and construction, transportation and logistics, tourism, and agri-business.

Mr. Peñaranda stated that China is one of the biggest trading partners of the Philippines and a primary source of investment. “Based on investment approvals for the period January-June 2025, China was the fourth-largest source of investments,” he said. He added that the internationalization of Chinese enterprises is driven by their need for markets and resources for continued expansion and diversification of supply chains.

GIC Secretary-General Lydia Liu characterized the Philippines as a “vigorous” market showing strong “vitality,” noting that “its priority industries are highly consistent with the overseas development needs of Chinese enterprises, laying a solid foundation for bilateral cooperation.”

GIC stated it will assist Chinese companies in seeking opportunities in the Philippines. The embassy noted that Energy China recognizes investment opportunities in the power sector because of significant renewable energy resources and a favorable policy landscape.

“With its familiarity with the local power project development process, Energy China indicated openness to discuss investment and EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) collaborations,” it said.

In another announcement, the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Philippines indicated that the Philippine team at the Diving, Resort, and Travel (DRT) Show Beijing 2025 generated more than P144 million in sales opportunities.

“DRT Show Beijing 2025 allowed us to connect with our Chinese dive market and promote the Philippines’ world-class dive experiences,” TPB Chief Operating Officer Maria Margarita Montemayor Nograles said.

“We are optimistic that this will strengthen our positioning in the Asia-Pacific market and encourage more visitors to explore the richness of our dive destinations,” she added.

The event featured a business-to-business networking session that united 50 Chinese dive operators, Philippine dive resorts, and various tourism industry participants for introductory conversations. The Philippines was awarded the Island Charm Award at the event for exceptional promotion of scuba diving and island tourism.
