  • Samsung to deploy 50,000 Nvidia GPUs in an AI Megafactory
  • Nvidia to enhance Samsung’s chip platform and provide Omniverse software
  • Samsung to optimize its high-bandwidth memory for Nvidia AI chips

Samsung has revealed that it is going to buy and use 50,000 Nvidia Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) for its mobile chips, robotics, and AI applications production.

The GPUs will be used in a plant that Samsung is referring to as an “AI Megafactory,” but the company has not released any information about the project’s timeline for construction.

Samsung Nvidia partnership advances AI chip manufacturing with a Samsung GPU facility, leveraging Nvidia GPUs, chipmaking technology, and AI in semiconductors for enhanced semiconductor automation.

The agreement signifies yet another prominent alliance for Nvidia, whose graphic processing units (GPUs) are at the core of the process of creating and implementing sophisticated artificial intelligence technologies.

The news came right after an event in Washington, D.C., by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, where he announced the partnerships with Palantir, Eli Lilly, CrowdStrike, and Uber among others.

Subsequently, Huang was seen in South Korea meeting with Samsung Chairman Lee Jae-yong and other business leaders, a move that marks the increasing connections between Nvidia and the large Korean companies. Besides, SK Group and Hyundai are among the others that have also been using a lot of Nvidia GPUs.

Raymond Teh, Nvidia’s Senior Vice President of Asia Pacific stated, "We’re working closely with the Korean government to support its ambitious leadership plans in AI".

In the course of the partnership, Nvidia will cooperate with Samsung to adjust its lithography platform used in chipmaking for Samsung to take advantage of Nvidia GPUs, which will be a major breakthrough in performance of up to 20 times.

Besides, Samsung will be getting the use of Nvidia’s Omniverse simulation software along with the GPU deployment for running AI model on its device.

Furthermore, HBM, which is a major source of supply to Nvidia’s AI chips and the main supplier for the AI applications, will be doing so by making its fourth-generation HBM more and more efficient for AI, thus reinforcing the collaboration between the two as both a customer and a supplier.
