The US clean energy firm Amogy has formed a multi-year strategic alliance with Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) to produce its ammonia-to-power systems in South Korea. The partnership seeks to enhance the production of Amogy’s groundbreaking carbon-free energy solutions for maritime and land-based uses.
Under the terms of the agreement, SHI will create a specialized manufacturing and testing facility to generate Amogy’s unique systems. The collaboration will initiate with the creation of units for a pilot clean energy initiative in Pohang, expected to start in 2026.
This new agreement enhances the current partnership between the two firms—SHI invested in Amogy in December 2024. Amogy’s investor roster features prominent global entities such as Amazon’s Climate Pledge Fund, SK Innovation, Aramco Ventures, Mitsubishi Corporation, BHP Ventures, and AP Ventures.

In addition to contract manufacturing, Amogy and SHI will collaborate to enhance next-generation ammonia-powered energy technologies, aiming at applications in maritime and decentralized energy systems.
Amogy’s technology operates by breaking down ammonia into hydrogen on location with a unique catalyst, which subsequently fuels cells or engines to produce electricity without carbon emissions. Its modular structure enables scalable implementation in industrial and maritime industries.
To enhance production, SHI aims to set up testing and quality benchmarks, introduce process management systems, and enlarge its ammonia demonstration facility in Geoje by the close of 2025.
