  • Medsintez and VNVC sign agreement for drug and vaccine R&D.
  • Collaboration covers insulin, antivirals, and infertility therapies.
  • VNVC to begin next-gen vaccine, biopharma production by 2027.

Russian pharmaceutical firm Medsintez and VNVC Vaccine and Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing Plant have entered into a detailed technology transfer agreement to biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

The ceremony for signing occurred on the evening of September 12, observed by Mikhail Murashko, the Russian Minister of Health, and Dao Hong Lan, the Vietnamese Minister of Health. This is in line with the comprehensive cooperation agreement established between the Vietnam Vaccine JSC (VNVC) and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) in May.

According to the agreement, both parties will work together on research and development, production, clinical trials for new medications and vaccines, as well as the distribution of Medsintez’s premium pharmaceuticals in Vietnam and the ASEAN area.

The advanced biopharmaceutical products transferred consist of recombinant albumin, recombinant insulin; both single-use and reusable insulin pens; diabetes medications such as liraglutide and semaglutide; anticoagulant heparin; antiviral Triazavirin; and follicle-stimulating hormone for infertility therapies. VNVC and Medsintez will collaborate on clinical studies of the antiviral medication Triazavirin for dengue fever treatment, possibly improving Vietnam’s ability to address dengue epidemics.

Ngo Chi Dung, Chairman and CEO of the VNVC Vaccine and Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing Plant, stated that by the end of 2027, the VNVC factory aims to start producing next-generation vaccines and sophisticated biopharmaceuticals created in Russia and other nations.

During the event, Vietnamese Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan emphasized that healthcare is a crucial area for collaboration, showcasing the robust and reliable relationship between Russia and Vietnam in medical education, pharmaceutical and vaccine provision, advanced technology, and healthcare infrastructure advancement. She voiced her optimism that cooperation between research institutions and advanced medical centers in both nations would create new prospects, particularly in cancer therapy and drug production.

VNVC currently runs almost 240 vaccination centers across the country, providing tens of millions of premium vaccine doses each year. The newly inaugurated VNVC vaccine facility intends to provide hundreds of millions of vaccine doses and biological products annually when fully operational.
