  • Partnership boosts automation, efficiency, and workforce training through Siemens’ U.S. facilities.
  • Hanwha Ocean proposes a submarine base, MRO facility, and training for the Philippine Navy.

HD Hyundai announced it has entered into a strategic partnership with Siemens for revitalizing U.S. shipbuilding during the APEC CEO Summit. The two companies seek to boost the competitiveness of the U.S. shipbuilding sector through the memorandum of understanding by enhancing design quality, lowering process risks, and decreasing costs.

HD Hyundai stated that by merging its shipbuilding knowledge with Siemens' digital twin and business platform technologies, the collaboration aims to speed up digital transformation in production processes and enhance efficiency.

They will acknowledge digital progress in the shipbuilding industry, enhance automation in block assembly, and refine production, quality, and processes through advancements grounded in a database. The two companies have also consented to use Siemens’ training centers throughout the U.S. to educate workers for the sector. HD Hyundai will send its trainers to approximately 30 Siemens-operated facilities in the U.S. to provide technical training.

The collaboration will also capitalize on HD Hyundai’s existing alliances with the University of Michigan and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, co-developing initiatives focused on engineering, digital planning, and automation related to shipbuilding.

As per the presidential office of the Philippines, representatives from Hanwha Ocean met with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to talk about the company’s proposal to aid the Philippine navy’s submarine initiative.

This encompasses the building of a submarine base, the creation of a local maintenance, repair, and overhaul facility, and the education of Filipino naval operators, maintainers, and commanders through advanced simulators and systems.
