  • ₹1,600 crore semiconductor investment push
  • Japan, Malaysia, and Korea back Gujarat
  • Focus on R&D, chemicals and packaging

Gujarat’s semiconductor ecosystem has received a fresh investment push of over ₹1,600 crore, backed by proposals from Japan, South Korea and Malaysia. The announcements were made during the Gujarat Semiconnect conference in Gandhinagar and cover manufacturing units, semiconductor chemicals, advanced instrumentation, R&D centres and high-tech startups.

The investment wave aims to build an end-to-end semiconductor value chain spanning raw materials, equipment manufacturing, chip packaging and innovation. The proposals complement large-scale semiconductor projects already underway in Sanand and Dholera, reinforcing Gujarat’s position as a key hub in India’s chip ambitions.

Japan’s Horiba Group, through Horiba India Pvt Ltd, signed an MoU with the state government to establish a dedicated R&D centre in Ahmedabad. The facility will focus on semiconductor-grade mass flow controllers and advanced instrumentation technologies.

Malaysia-based Hotayi Electronics has committed ₹250 crore to set up an electronics manufacturing unit at Sanand GIDC. The facility will manufacture SSDs and memory modules, supply precision components to semiconductor industries and is expected to generate around 1,000 jobs.

In the upstream segment, Hi-Spec Ltd has proposed a ₹750 crore plant to manufacture semiconductor-grade hydrofluoric acid, a critical wafer-processing chemical. Kiansh International Technologies, in partnership with a South Korean firm, will invest ₹25 crore in gas abatement systems and scrubbers.

Japanese chipmaker Rohm Semiconductor has partnered with Gujarat-based Suchi Semicon to introduce IC packaging and testing solutions. Meanwhile, Kaynes Semicon has committed ₹500 crore to Ahmedabad startup SpectraGaze Systems to advance semiconductor and space-imaging technologies.
