Gwalior is set to host Asia’s first Telecom Manufacturing Zone with an investment of ₹5,500 crore, attracting 24 companies and creating an ecosystem for telecom equipment and component manufacturing.
Gwalior is set to emerge as a major telecom manufacturing hub with the establishment of Asia’s first Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ), involving an investment of approximately ₹5,500 crore. The project is expected to create more than 18,000 direct employment opportunities and establish a dedicated ecosystem for telecom equipment and component manufacturing.
Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia inspects the proposed site at Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Counter Magnet City (SADA) in Gwalior. The project is designed as an industrial ecosystem comprising around 24–25 manufacturing units rather than a single facility. These units are expected to produce telecom equipment and a range of components, strengthening the city’s manufacturing base.

Around 170 acres are identified for the first phase, including more than 90 acres in SADA and over 70 acres in the IT Park. The government reports strong investor interest, with applications already exceeding the currently available land. Additional land is expected to be identified as the project expands.
The Department of Telecommunications and the Madhya Pradesh government sign an MoU for the TMZ in July 2026. Investor roadshows in Delhi and Mumbai subsequently generate investment commitments of about ₹3,500 crore and ₹2,000 crore, respectively. These commitments have the potential to generate around 14,000 and 4,000 employment opportunities. Following the application process, 24 companies initiate applications to establish manufacturing units within the proposed zone.
To support the manufacturing ecosystem, the Madhya Pradesh government develops a dedicated incentive package covering land leases, power, employment and production, along with measures supporting green development. The Department of Telecommunications also proposes a Common Testing Lab worth approximately ₹500 crore to provide testing infrastructure for manufacturers operating in the zone.

Connectivity is another factor supporting the project. The proposed 120-km Agra-Gwalior High-Speed Corridor is expected to improve links with Delhi and major North Indian markets, while railway connectivity supports movement of goods and workers. Gwalior’s airport also strengthens links with cities including Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.
With around 25,000 engineering students graduating annually from institutions in the city, Gwalior is also positioned to provide the technical workforce required for the planned telecom manufacturing ecosystem.
