The agreement to strengthen economic ties is reached during a meeting between Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.

During the meeting, the two countries agree to organise business forums in both Ghana and the Philippines. The proposed forums are intended to provide a platform for businesses from the two countries to explore commercial opportunities, establish partnerships and expand investment activities.
Ghana and the Philippines also plan to establish a chamber of commerce to support stronger business relations. The proposed institution is expected to facilitate connections between businesses, encourage investment and provide greater opportunities for private sector cooperation.
Ablakwa welcomes the Philippines’ decision to establish an embassy in Ghana, describing it as an important development for bilateral relations. The planned diplomatic mission is expected to provide a dedicated platform for strengthening engagement between the two governments and supporting closer economic cooperation.
The two sides also discuss labour mobility, agreeing to share ideas and expertise on labour mobility agreements. The cooperation is intended to support discussions on policies and mechanisms related to the movement of workers between the two countries.
The opening of the Philippine embassy in Accra is expected to add momentum to Ghana-Philippines relations by creating stronger channels for diplomatic communication and economic engagement. It also provides an opportunity for both countries to expand cooperation beyond existing diplomatic ties.
