Synopsis: China and Bangladesh plan to explore new diplomatic and defence dialogue mechanisms to strengthen strategic coordination under their newly upgraded "China-Bangladesh Community with a Shared Future."
China and Bangladesh are exploring new diplomatic and defence cooperation platforms as both countries seek to deepen strategic ties following the establishment of the "China-Bangladesh Community with a Shared Future." The proposed initiatives are aimed at enhancing political coordination, security cooperation, and long-term bilateral engagement.
Speaking at a press conference in Dhaka, Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen said the upgraded relationship represents the highest level of bilateral cooperation between the two countries and requires stronger institutional mechanisms to support future collaboration. According to the ambassador, both governments have agreed in their joint communiqué to examine new political-level dialogue platforms.
One proposal involves establishing a strategic dialogue between the foreign ministers of China and Bangladesh to discuss bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues. The initiative is expected to provide a structured framework for addressing strategic priorities and expanding diplomatic cooperation.

The two countries are also considering a "two-plus-two" dialogue mechanism that would bring together officials responsible for foreign affairs and defence. The platform is intended to improve coordination between diplomatic and security sectors while strengthening strategic communication, mutual trust, and defence cooperation.
Yao clarified that the mechanism is still under discussion and has not yet been finalised. Both sides will continue consultations to determine its structure and implementation. He noted that China already maintains similar dialogue mechanisms with several Southeast Asian nations, including Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, and Thailand. Bangladesh has also recently agreed to establish a comparable ministerial-level framework with Turkiye.
The proposed mechanisms follow Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's recent visit to Beijing, during which both countries agreed to elevate bilateral relations to a "China-Bangladesh Community with a Shared Future." Bangladesh has become the second South Asian country, after Pakistan, to receive this designation from China.
The planned dialogue platforms are expected to strengthen cooperation across diplomacy, defence, and regional affairs while supporting closer strategic engagement between China and Bangladesh in the years ahead.
