FPT, Viettel Team Up to Build Strategic Semiconductor Capabilities

Asia Manufacturing Review Team | Friday, 30 January 2026

  • FPT is setting up Vietnam’s first domestically owned advanced chip packaging and testing facility
  • The plant will train students and support Vietnam’s goal of 50,000 semiconductor professionals by 2030
  • Initially 1,600 sqm with six testing lines, it will expand to 6,000 sqm and 24 lines by 2030

FPT Corporation (HoSE: FPT) has announced the development of Vietnam’s first advanced chip packaging and testing facility which will be completely owned and operated by a domestic company. This facility aims to strengthen Vietnam's semiconductor ecosystem while establishing the country as a participant in international supply chains.

The facility meets the requirements of government and Politburo resolutions which mandate control over essential technologies and execution of national science and technology and innovation and digital transformation plans.

The plant will support Vietnam's semiconductor ecosystem by providing facilities for research and design and manufacturing and training and testing and packaging and commercialization.

The project from FPT will establish national semiconductor alliance collaboration while developing complete domestic capabilities which extend from training to research and chip fabrication and testing and sales.

The facility will provide students with practical training which will help the government reach its objective of producing 50000 semiconductor specialists by 2030. The program aims to produce 35000 specialists who will work in manufacturing and packaging and testing fields.

“At today’s milestone, we have moved one step closer to completing Vietnam’s semiconductor ecosystem. To make chips a reality, products must be commercialized immediately. FPT will work closely with Viettel and domestic partners so that as chips are produced, FPT can handle testing and packaging, allowing Vietnamese technology chips to enter daily life”, stated FPT Chairman Truong Gia Binh.

The plant and Viettel's upcoming chip manufacturing facility will serve as a training center that semiconductor engineers can use to develop their skills. Nguyen Bich Yen of Vietnam National University emphasized that FPT is central to building a domestic semiconductor value chain, spanning materials, design, packaging, testing, manufacturing, digital infrastructure, and talent development.

The first phase (2026–2027) of the plant at Yen Phong II-C Industrial Park in Bac Ninh province will cover 1,600 square meters with six testing lines and reliability testing systems. The system will comply with international standards that include ISO 9001 ISO 14001 IATF 16949 JEDEC AEC-Q100 and AEC-Q101.

The facility will expand to 6,000 square meters in phase two (2028–2030) while adding 18 testing lines that will improve reliability testing and include traditional and advanced chip packaging lines which will have an annual capacity of billions of units.

The plant will provide testing services for advanced chips used in IoT devices automotive electronics and edge AI applications which will establish a necessary component for Vietnam's semiconductor industry development.
