Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates are strengthening economic cooperation across investment, trade, tourism and technology as both countries seek to translate growing bilateral relations into wider commercial opportunities. Ethiopia is promoting its economic reforms and investment potential to attract greater participation from UAE-based businesses and investors.
Ethiopia’s Ambassador to the UAE, Jemal Beker, highlights the expanding partnership and says ongoing macroeconomic reforms are helping create a more favourable environment for foreign investment. The reforms are aimed at improving the investment climate, attracting international capital and strengthening Ethiopia’s integration into the global economy.

The Ethiopian Embassy in the UAE is playing an active role in connecting Ethiopian projects and companies with potential investors. The country is promoting opportunities based on its renewable energy resources, young workforce, strategic geographical position and international connectivity, including the extensive network of Ethiopian Airlines.
Investment promotion also features Ethiopia’s participation in business forums, international conferences and the Global Investment Meeting in the UAE. A delegation led by President Taye Atske Selassie uses such platforms to present investment opportunities and develop stronger links with UAE investors.
Trade is another priority, with both countries seeking to consolidate existing markets while identifying new areas for commercial cooperation. Ethiopian authorities are working with businesses and relevant institutions to facilitate stronger connections and increase bilateral trade flows.
Tourism is also emerging as an important area of engagement. Ethiopia is seeking to attract more visitors from the UAE by promoting its historical and cultural heritage, natural landscapes and developing tourism destinations. Initiatives such as “Dine for Nation” are being presented to international audiences as part of these efforts.
Technology transfer, professional expertise and technical support provide another avenue for cooperation. Such partnerships are expected to facilitate knowledge sharing, capacity building and access to technologies supporting Ethiopia’s economic transformation.

The expanding economic relationship follows high-level political engagement between the two countries. During the BRICS Summit in New Delhi earlier in September, UAE Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed discussed opportunities to strengthen bilateral relations and develop high-impact partnerships supporting sustainable development.
The latest initiatives therefore reflect efforts by Ethiopia and the UAE to broaden their relationship beyond diplomatic engagement and create practical opportunities in investment, trade, tourism, technology and professional cooperation.
