Egypt and Thailand sign three cooperation agreements for 2027-2029 to strengthen trade, investment, cultural ties, and development partnerships.

Egypt and Thailand have signed three cooperation agreements for 2027-2029 to strengthen bilateral relations and expand collaboration in trade, investment, culture, and development. The agreements were concluded during the third meeting of the Egypt-Thailand Joint Commission in Bangkok, marking the first meeting of the commission in 20 years.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow co-chaired the meeting, which focused on strengthening political and security cooperation, promoting economic partnerships, and expanding engagement in areas of mutual interest. The visit also marked the first trip by an Egyptian foreign minister to Thailand in three decades.

The three agreements include a Joint Plan of Action between the foreign ministries of both countries for 2027-2029, a memorandum of understanding on cultural cooperation between their respective culture ministries, and an agreement between the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development and the Thailand International Cooperation Agency to advance trilateral development cooperation in third countries.

The two sides also discussed opportunities to increase bilateral trade, attract investment, and improve market access for Egyptian exports in Thailand. Egypt highlighted the investment potential of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, noting that its strategic location and infrastructure could help Thai companies reach African, Arab, and European markets. Both countries also encouraged businesses to explore joint investment opportunities and strengthen private-sector partnerships.

Beyond economic cooperation, the discussions covered public health, high-level exchanges, regional developments, and collaboration through multilateral platforms. Both sides also explored opportunities under the Thailand-Africa Initiative, which aims to expand cooperation between Thailand and African countries.

The meeting reflects renewed efforts by Cairo and Bangkok to deepen diplomatic engagement and translate shared priorities into practical cooperation. The two countries have also expressed interest in maintaining regular high-level visits and strengthening bilateral consultation mechanisms.
