Egypt and Algeria reaffirm their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade, investment and economic ties while coordinating on regional issues involving Palestine, Sudan, the Sahel and Libya.
Egypt and Algeria confirm their readiness to develop relations and deepen cooperation in different fields of economics, trade, and investments through a phone call made by their respective foreign ministers on September 17, 2026. Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, and Algeria’s Foreign Minister, Ahmed Attaf, review bilateral relations as well as some regional issues of common concern.
Both the ministers stress the importance of capitalizing on the good relations that exist by following up on the results of the ninth session of the Joint Higher Committee of Egypt and Algeria. The talks are aimed at converting the results of the committee into action and forming further business partnerships between the two countries.

However, economic cooperation still plays an important role on the bilateral agenda. The two countries intend to develop trade and investment relations by exploring new spheres of cooperation. The ninth session of the Joint Higher Committee, conducted in November 2025, results in the creation of 18 documents about cooperation, including such fields as agriculture, housing, electricity, finance, local development, culture, education, labour, and public administration.
They also share their thoughts on the fast-changing situation within the region and how this will affect the security of Arab nations. There is an emphasis placed on the need for unity and consultation within the Arab nations for security reasons.
The Palestinian Question is one of the issues under discussion, along with events in Sudan and the Sahel region. Ministers have reviewed the situation in Libya and have reiterated the need for coordinated efforts in terms of the Tripartite Mechanism comprised of neighboring countries to Libya. Egypt and Algeria emphasize the need for a political solution that guarantees the unity and integrity of Libya.

The last consultation is part of the tradition of coordination on regional issues between Cairo and Algiers. The foreign ministries of these countries conduct constant consultations, including ones which are specialized for regional issues, including Libya.
As economic cooperation and regional coordination proceed hand in hand, both countries are trying to enhance institutional relations and at the same time widening the areas of collaboration. This is further proved by the recent ministers’ meeting that highlighted their commitment to trade and investment, as well as diplomacy on regional issues.
