  • Expo highlights innovations in eco-friendly textile materials and technologies.
  • China extends zero-tariff access, strengthening trade partnership with Bangladesh.

Emphasizing the significance of green development, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen stated on Thursday that China is prepared to collaborate with all nations, including Bangladesh, to establish a more open, inclusive, and mutually advantageous global economy, ensuring that the outcomes of cooperation can benefit individuals worldwide.

“Green development is the trend of our time, and win-win cooperation is our shared goal,” he said while speaking at the opening ceremony of the “Bangladesh China Green Textile Expo” held at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB).

The Ambassador stated that evidence shows Bangladesh-China collaboration is not a zero-sum situation, but rather a route to mutual prosperity. “Our cooperation extends beyond trade figures to encompass improving people’s livelihoods and sharing development experiences. It is also a vivid practice of the two peoples working together to pursue a better life,” he said.

Brigadier General S M Zahid Hassan, Chairman of Bangladesh Textile Mills Corporation (BTMC), Mohd Khorshed Alam, President of Bangladesh China Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCCCI), and Mijanur Rahman, Vice President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) also addressed the opening session.

The inaugural Bangladesh-China Green Textile Expo is regarded as a new milestone in the economic collaboration between the two countries. Ambassador Yao emphasized the importance of this Expo, themed ‘Green Textile’, highlighting that it presents the innovative accomplishments of Chinese companies in sustainable textile materials and equipment, while also uniting academics and industry leaders from both nations to explore the future of the clothing sector.

He mentioned that China is prepared to collaborate with Bangladesh to advance green transformation in the textile sector, assist in the adoption of energy-efficient technologies and sustainable materials, and improve Bangladesh’s competitiveness in the worldwide supply chain.

“This Expo is also a valuable opportunity for us to expand cooperation in textile machinery, digital printing, and smart manufacturing, and jointly build a sustainable green industrial chain,” said Ambassador Yao. China highly values its partnership with Bangladesh. We have expanded market access with an open attitude, granted zero-tariff treatment to 100% of the taxable items of Bangladesh products, and extended this policy to 2028,” he added.

According to Ambassador Yao, the five fundamental principles of the GGI, upholding sovereign equality, following international law, promoting multilateralism, endorsing a people-centered approach, and emphasizing tangible actions, are in harmony with the objectives of the U.N. Charter and provide Chinese insights and solutions for enhancing global governance.
