Synopsis:  Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan discuss expanding energy cooperation, renewable integration, and advanced technologies, while highlighting battery storage solutions and strengthening regional collaboration for sustainable power development.

Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan are strengthening regional energy cooperation through discussions focused on power sector development, renewable energy integration, and the adoption of advanced technologies. The talks reflect the growing commitment of the three countries to enhance energy security, modernize electricity networks, and support the transition toward sustainable energy systems.

The discussions took place during a meeting involving delegations led by Baba Rzayev, Chairman of the Board of AzerEnergy OJSC, Nabi Aitzhanov, Chairman of the Board of Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company (KEGOC), and Feruz Kurbanov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Uzbekistan’s National Electric Networks. The meeting provided a platform for participants to exchange views on the current state of cooperation and explore opportunities for expanding collaboration in the future.

A key focus of the talks was the development of stronger energy partnerships among the three countries. Officials reviewed ongoing cooperation and discussed measures to improve the efficiency and reliability of regional power systems. The participants highlighted the importance of closer coordination in addressing emerging energy challenges and supporting long-term economic growth across the region.

The meeting also examined the application of innovative technologies in the energy sector. Special attention was given to the integration of renewable energy sources into national electricity grids as countries seek to increase clean energy generation and reduce dependence on conventional energy sources. The discussions underscored the growing role of renewable power in achieving energy diversification and sustainability goals.

Participants exchanged experiences related to Azerbaijan’s recently commissioned Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), which have a total capacity of 250 megawatts and 500 megawatt-hours. The project represents a significant step in enhancing grid stability and supporting the integration of renewable energy into the national power system. Azerbaijan shared insights into the implementation and operational benefits of large-scale energy storage technologies, which are increasingly viewed as essential components of modern electricity networks.

The delegations also emphasized the importance of intensifying future cooperation through regular consultations, technical exchanges, and mutual visits. Strengthening institutional ties and sharing expertise were identified as key factors in advancing regional energy collaboration.

Experts believe that deeper cooperation among Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan could contribute to a more interconnected and resilient regional energy market while accelerating the adoption of innovative and sustainable energy solutions across Central Asia and the South Caucasus.
