Azerbaijan and Russia discuss expanding trade and economic cooperation, improving freight links and border procedures, and increasing the use of the International North-South Transport Corridor.
Azerbaijan and Russia have discussed ways to expand bilateral trade and economic cooperation, with particular attention to transport connectivity, freight traffic and the development of the International North-South Transport Corridor.
Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev met Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk in Moscow, during a visit by an Azerbaijani delegation. The officials reviewed the current state of bilateral economic relations and prospects for expanding practical cooperation.

The discussions covered cooperation in trade, investment, industry, energy, agriculture, transport and logistics. Mustafayev and Overchuk emphasized the importance of regular high-level contacts and reviewed the implementation of agreements reached between the two countries, including decisions adopted by the Azerbaijan-Russia Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.
The 24th meeting of the intergovernmental commission was held in Zangilan, Azerbaijan, on April 16. The two sides have been working to increase bilateral trade and create more favorable conditions for businesses operating in both markets.
Transport and logistics emerged as a key focus of the latest talks. The officials discussed measures to improve freight traffic between Azerbaijan and Russia and examined ways to make greater use of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), a multimodal route connecting countries across Europe and Asia through the Caspian region.
The sides also reviewed the operation of border crossing points and considered measures to streamline procedures for the movement of cargo and vehicles. Improved border processing is expected to support more efficient cross-border trade and strengthen transport links between the two countries.
The officials additionally exchanged views on the implementation of mutually beneficial projects and agreed on the importance of continuing efforts to expand economic cooperation.
During his Moscow visit, Mustafayev also met Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak to discuss bilateral relations, with emphasis on economic and trade cooperation in areas including industry, energy, transport and logistics.

Meetings were also held with Emin Agalarov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan-Russia Business Council, and Alexey Repik, Chairman of the Russia-Azerbaijan Business Council. These discussions focused on strengthening trade, investment and business ties between the two countries.
The latest engagements highlight the continued focus by Azerbaijan and Russia on expanding economic relations while improving regional connectivity and strengthening the role of transport corridors linking their markets.
