Vietnam and Bangladesh seek to deepen economic cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, healthcare, technology and logistics, while advancing a new air transport agreement to establish direct flights between Hanoi and Dhaka.
Vietnam and Bangladesh are exploring new opportunities to strengthen their economic and commercial partnership, with trade, investment, tourism, healthcare, technology, agriculture and connectivity emerging as key areas for cooperation. Vietnam Ambassador to Bangladesh Nguyen Manh Cuong highlights the potential during a reception hosted by the Vietnamese Embassy in Dhaka.
Cuong reaffirms Vietnam's commitment to strengthening its traditional friendship with Bangladesh and expanding bilateral relations through practical and mutually beneficial cooperation. He identifies industry, agriculture, logistics, technology, healthcare and tourism as sectors offering significant scope for greater engagement.

The ambassador also highlights Vietnam's economic transformation under the Doi Moi policy, noting the country's growing role in global trade and investment. Vietnam's economy reaches approximately $514 billion in GDP in 2025, while its total import-export turnover stands at around $930 billion. The country also implements 17 free trade agreements and attracts substantial foreign investment.
Against this backdrop, Vietnam sees Bangladesh as a market with considerable potential for expanding bilateral economic engagement. Greater cooperation could support Vietnamese companies seeking opportunities in Bangladesh while creating additional avenues for Bangladeshi businesses to access Vietnamese and wider Southeast Asian markets.
Connectivity is identified as an important component of the partnership. Vietnam and Bangladesh are working to finalise negotiations on a new air transport agreement that could enable direct flights between Hanoi and Dhaka. According to Cuong, improved air connectivity would provide fresh momentum to tourism, healthcare, people-to-people exchanges and bilateral trade.
Direct air links could also make business travel easier and support stronger institutional and commercial exchanges between the two countries. Improved connectivity is expected to complement cooperation in logistics and trade by creating more convenient links between the two markets.
The proposed expansion of economic relations comes as both countries seek to build on their longstanding diplomatic friendship. Vietnam sees opportunities to increase cooperation not only in traditional trade but also in sectors with higher growth potential, including technology, healthcare and modern logistics.
