Vietnam, Russia Boost Industrial Growth and Innovation Ties

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Russian Ministry for collaboration in scientific research, industrial advancement, and innovation within the industrial field.

The agreement was signed during the inaugural ceremony of the Vietnam-Russia Scientific Forum, focused on Industrial, Technological, and Innovation Advancement. During the event, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Truong Thanh Hoai stated that Russia is not just a longstanding and dependable partner but also a significant friend that has supported Vietnam during its nation-building and defense efforts.

Entering a new phase - the phase of national advancement, Vietnam recognizes industrialization and modernization as key responsibilities, with science, technology, and innovation deemed top national priorities, he stated. With the development focus set for 2030, Vietnam targets industry to contribute more than 40% of GDP, while manufacturing and processing are expected to make up about 30%.

Hoai states that Vietnam aims to transition its growth model towards depth, emphasizing the advancement of energy industries, materials industries, mechanical engineering, and the digital technology sector. To achieve these ambitious objectives, Vietnam emphasizes international collaboration alongside domestic capabilities, particularly with Russia - a country with a robust base in fundamental sciences and advanced core technologies.

In his speech at the forum, Russian Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Aleksey Gruzdev highlighted that the forum has evolved into a catalyst and a significant advancement for enhancing bilateral ties, encouraging trade initiatives, and broadening collaboration in industry and high technology between the nations.

In the near future, the Russian Government will allocate funds to promote the growth of industries such as truck manufacturing and areas with significant growth potential such as high-tech production. Russia aims for a 40% share of exports outside the energy sector. By 2030, the nation strives for as much as 90% industrial self-sufficiency and to emerge as a world leader in advanced technology sectors.
