The sixth Vietnam-Japan high-level agricultural cooperation dialogue in Tokyo reaffirmed their strong bilateral relations, and Acting Vietnamese Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Duc Thang and Japanese Minister Koizumi Shinjiro approved the third phase of their medium-to-long-term agricultural vision statement.
Thang highlighted Japan's strategic contributions to the development of capital, technology and public-private partnership capabilities aligning and upgrading Vietnam's agriculture value chain, product quality, export market, and sustainable growth plans. He urged Japan to create market access for Vietnamese pomelos, passion fruit and catfish. Both countries agreed to continue their strengthened cooperation on seed research, biotechnology, IoT, AI, and blockchain.

Koizumi invited Vietnam to the 2027 World Horticultural Exhibition in Yokohama, and then pressed for more rapid market access for Japanese pomelos, grapes and pufferfish. The Vietnam-Japan public-private dialogue conference, organized by Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, involved almost 200 business leaders and resulted in 10 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed between Vietnamese and Japanese companies for trade, investment, and sustainable agricultural processing.
Thang encouraged Japanese investment in deep processing, and Koizumi presented the partnerships as models for agricultural development in ASEAN and the world. The implementation of these agreements is consistent with Vietnam's export growth momentum, with agricultural export turnover in the first 8 months of 2025 reaching US$45.37 billion, which is an increase of 12% compared to the same period last year. Japan accounts for 7.5% of Vietnam's agricultural exports and continues to be a critical partner for Vietnam's green and smart agriculture development.
