Vietnam and Angola are seeking to deepen their long-standing partnership through stronger political, economic, and development cooperation, as Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung calls for more substantive bilateral engagement during talks with Angola’s Minister of External Relations, Téte António, in Hanoi. The discussions reflect the shared commitment of both countries to expand collaboration across a range of strategic sectors and strengthen ties between Southeast Asia and Africa.
Welcoming the Angolan minister on his first official visit to Vietnam, Prime Minister Hung emphasized that Vietnam highly values its traditional friendship and fraternal relationship with Angola. He praised Angola’s growing influence in Africa and highlighted the historical significance of the relationship between the two nations, which has been built on decades of solidarity and cooperation.
The Vietnamese leader expressed satisfaction with the positive progress achieved in bilateral relations in recent years and called for more frequent high-level exchanges, stronger cooperation between ministries and government agencies, and enhanced coordination at international forums. He also encouraged greater collaboration between the ruling parties of both countries and the sharing of development experiences to support national growth objectives.
A key focus of the discussions was economic cooperation. Prime Minister Hung urged both sides to accelerate negotiations on important trade and investment agreements, including investment protection arrangements and mechanisms to avoid double taxation. Such agreements are expected to provide a stronger foundation for business activity, encourage investment flows, and diversify bilateral trade. He also called for continued support for Vietnamese enterprises operating in Angola, particularly in the energy sector.

Vietnam further expressed interest in revitalizing traditional areas of cooperation, including agriculture, healthcare, and education. The prime minister emphasized that these sectors offer significant opportunities to improve people-to-people ties while contributing to sustainable development in both countries.
For his part, Téte António praised Vietnam’s economic achievements and thanked the country for its historical support during Angola’s struggle for national liberation. He stated that Angola views Vietnam as an important partner in its current development phase and is keen to expand cooperation in agriculture, mining, and mineral processing. The Angolan minister also expressed support for the cooperation priorities outlined by the Vietnamese government and pledged close coordination between the two foreign ministries to facilitate future high-level exchanges.
Both countries also discussed broader international cooperation. Prime Minister Hung congratulated Angola on its leadership role within the African Union and expressed hope that Angola could help strengthen ties between Vietnam and African institutions. In return, Vietnam reaffirmed its willingness to serve as a bridge connecting Angola with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), creating new opportunities for economic and diplomatic engagement.
Analysts believe that stronger Vietnam–Angola cooperation could generate new opportunities in trade, investment, agriculture, energy, and resource development while reinforcing South-South cooperation between Asia and Africa.
