Uzbekistan and Qatar have agreed to expand cooperation in trade, investment, economic development and humanitarian affairs following talks between Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Tashkent. The meeting took place during the Qatari leader’s working visit and builds on the strategic partnership established between the two countries.

The leaders reviewed progress on implementing agreements reached during previous high-level meetings and agreed to broaden joint projects across economic, investment, social and humanitarian sectors. They also exchanged views on regional and international developments, reaffirming their intention to maintain regular political dialogue and strengthen bilateral relations.

The talks reflect both countries’ efforts to translate closer diplomatic engagement into practical commercial partnerships. Uzbekistan is seeking to attract foreign capital to support economic development, industrial expansion and infrastructure projects, while Qatar continues to explore investment opportunities across international markets.

Investment cooperation has become an important component of the relationship. During their earlier meeting on October 15, the leaders discussed opportunities in energy, chemicals, transport, construction and other sectors. Uzbekistan also reported an increase in investment from Qatar since the beginning of 2026, although no specific investment total was disclosed in the latest announcement.

Separately, the third meeting of the Qatar-Uzbekistan Joint Committee on Economic, Trade and Technical Cooperation took place on the sidelines of the 2026 World Investment Forum. Officials discussed expanding bilateral trade, encouraging private-sector participation in joint projects and improving coordination to implement existing agreements. According to Qatar’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, bilateral trade grew by more than 30% in 2025, while Uzbek exports to Qatar increased by over 36%.

The countries are also planning further engagement through the Doha Forum in December 2026, where meetings of the intergovernmental joint commission and the bilateral Business Council are expected to take place. These platforms could help businesses identify investment opportunities, develop partnerships and advance projects in priority industries.

The latest talks highlight the growing importance of Central Asia-Gulf economic ties, particularly in trade diversification, investment and infrastructure development. The next phase of cooperation will depend on implementing existing agreements and converting the leaders’ commitments into concrete projects and measurable commercial outcomes.
